Overview
Fieldwire's version control feature empowers you choose which version of your drawings you would like to view. When you upload a new version of your plan, Fieldwire slipsheets the new version on top of the old version to transfer all of the markups, annotations, and attachments to the new version.
By default, each version is stamped with the date it was uploaded.
Note: Previous versions of the plans will have a red watermark in their center to clearly distinguish them from the current versions. The latest version will always display first.
View Version History
For multiple plans
On the 'Plans' tab, select the 'Version control' option.
This displays the history of all plans which have been uploaded to the project. These include the last 90 days of plan uploads.
Note: The version control history displays results based on how many version events can fit in the window. If there are over 1000 events, only the past 30 days (or potentially less) of events are displayed.
If the same user uploads, or deletes, multiple sheets within one hour, they will be grouped together under a heading titled 'Multiple files'. You can:
- 'Expand' to view the original file name, description, and notes of each sheet.
- 'Edit' and adjust the version description of each sheet (this defaults to the date of upload, e.g. 2024-02-02).
- 'Delete' the version set, or individual plan itself, if it was uploaded in error.
-
If the plans you delete are the most recent iterations, you will lose the markups that have pushed to those plans. The best time to use this option is if you are prompted to confirm plan names or resolve version conflicts, since this occurs prior to versioning.
-
Note: Only Project Admins have access to the "Version Control" feature.
For individual plans
Select the 'Version Control' option to re-order, adjust the version description, or delete previous versions of a plan.
Hover your cursor over a specific version, and you'll see arrow buttons appear that allow you to change the order that the version is displayed in. This comes in handy if you accidentally upload the sheets in the wrong sequence, if the plans have incorrectly versioned, or if you need to refer to the file name of the sheet.
- "Edit" the Version Description, Notes, or delete the sheet.
- Select the arrows to change the order in which the sheets are displayed.
Note: If you delete individual versions of plans sheets from the version control button on the single plan view, these plan sheets cannot be recovered from the trash tab.
View different Version Sets
Fieldwire allows you to filter plans by version set, and you can isolate sheets from a particular upload or revision set by using the version description. This is useful for identifying scope changes from drawing sets.
The version description defaults to the date that the plans were uploaded in Fieldwire (e.g. "2024-02-02"). You can adjust this from the 'Version Control' option on the 'Plans' tab, after choosing to edit the set. You can also alter the version description to reflect a particular component of the plan, if you prefer.
Filter by Version Set
On the 'Plans' tab, select 'Filter Plans'.
You can sort by version set in Fieldwire if you want to isolate a specific set of plans. Fieldwire will auto-complete the name of the version set as you begin to type - by default, the version description is the date of upload, e.g. "2024-02-02".
