Overview
The Manage Tags tool in Fieldwire allows Project Admins to create, edit, delete, and organize tags used across plans, tasks, photos, and files.
Why this matters: Tags help standardize naming and improve organization across your project, making it easier to search, filter, and report on content.
- You can: create new tags, rename tags, delete tags, and import tags in bulk.
- Applies to: Plans, Tasks, Photos, and Files.
For more details, see How to use and edit Tags throughout Fieldwire
Access the Manage Tags Tool
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Scroll to the Tags section.
- Select Manage Tags.
View and Sort Tags
The Manage Tags page shows all tags used in the project and how frequently they are applied.
- Sort by Tag: Alphabetical order.
- Sort by Count: Usage frequency across all content.
Note: Counts include plans, files, tasks, and photos.
Example: A tag used on 2 photos, 2 files, and 2 tasks has a total count of 6.
Edit or Delete Tags
- Select the pencil icon to rename a tag.
- Select the trash icon to delete a tag.
IMPORTANT: Deleting a tag removes it from all associated plans, files, tasks, and photos.
Limitation: Tags cannot be merged. If you rename a tag to match an existing tag, you will see an error. Update the tagged content first, then delete the old tag.
Note: Tags added to a task by a Project Admin can only be removed by a Project Admin. Users with lower permissions will not be able to remove these tags.
Create a New Tag
- Select New Tag.
- Enter the tag name.
- Select Create.
Import Tags in Bulk
- Select Import.
- Paste tags from an Excel sheet.
- Select Import tags.
Best practice: Import tags during project setup to maintain consistency across teams.
FAQs
Can I merge tags in Fieldwire?
No. Tags cannot be merged. To standardize tags, update the content using the old tag, then delete the unused tag.
What happens when I delete a tag?
Deleting a tag removes it from all associated plans, tasks, files, and photos, but it does not delete the content itself.
Why can’t I remove a tag from a task?
If the tag was added by a Project Admin, only a Project Admin can remove it. This ensures consistency and prevents unauthorized changes to project tagging.
