Overview

Fieldwire users on a Business or higher subscription have the option to set up integrations between their Fieldwire account/projects and third-party platforms, including Kamai.

Kamai is an AI-powered blueprint data platform that converts construction drawings into structured, actionable data. When integrated with Fieldwire, Kamai allows users to extract insights from plans and turn them directly into Fieldwire tasks, complete with location pins on the blueprint.

This integration helps bridge the gap between plan interpretation and field execution by reducing manual task creation and enabling faster project setup.

This article will walk through how to connect Fieldwire to Kamai and how the integration workflow operates.

Setting up a Connection to Kamai

Before starting, ensure you have the correct permissions and requirements in both systems.

To create the connection, you’ll need the following:

  • A Kamai account
  • A Fieldwire account on a Business or higher plan
  • A Fieldwire API key. For more information, check out this article: Introduction to the Fieldwire API
  • Admin-level access to Fieldwire projects (recommended for full functionality)

 

Authorization between Kamai and Fieldwire

During setup, you authorize Kamai to:

  • Access your Fieldwire projects
  • Read project files (plans)
  • Create tasks in Fieldwire
  • Sync blueprint-related data between systems

To connect Fieldwire to Kamai, do the following:

  1. Generate your Fieldwire API key
    • In Fieldwire:
      1. Click on the Account tab from your Project Dashboard
      2. Locate the API section
      3. Click Managed tokens
      4. Click + new token to generate a new API key
      5. Copy the key
  2. Log into Kamai
    • Access your Kamai account.
  3. Navigate to the Fieldwire integration setup
    1. Open the user or integration settings in Kamai
    2. Locate the Fieldwire connection option
  4. Authenticate Fieldwire
    1. Paste your Fieldwire API key into Kamai
    2. Save or click Connect
      • Kamai will validate the connection and sync your Fieldwire projects and files.
  5. Confirm project sync
    1. Select a Fieldwire project within Kamai
    2. Verify that project files (plans) are visible and synced

How the Kamai → Fieldwire workflow operates

Once connected, Kamai allows you to analyze blueprints and push structured outputs directly into Fieldwire.

Syncing projects and plans

  • Fieldwire projects and files sync into Kamai
  • Blueprints can be opened and analyzed within Kamai

Querying blueprints with AI

  • Users can ask questions about plans using natural language, such as:
    • “Give me flooring area for bedrooms”
    • “Include closets and additional spaces”
  • Kamai processes the request and outputs:
    • Highlighted plan annotations
    • Calculated quantities
    • Structured data tables

Generating and exporting data

  • Kamai produces results in a table format (similar to a spreadsheet)
  • Users can review or edit the data directly in Kamai
  • When ready, click Export to Fieldwire

Creating Fieldwire tasks

  • After exporting:
    • Tasks are automatically created in Fieldwire
    • Tasks are linked to the relevant blueprint
    • Location markers are placed directly on the plan

This allows teams to immediately act on extracted scope without manual task setup.

Example workflow

  • Upload or sync a project from Fieldwire into Kamai
  • Open a blueprint in Kamai
  • Ask a question about the plan (e.g., quantities or scope)
  • Review the generated table of results
  • Click Export to Fieldwire
  • View newly created tasks in Fieldwire, pinned to the blueprint
