Overview
When generating a task report in Fieldwire, reports that exceed certain size thresholds are automatically split into multiple PDFs and delivered as a single .zip file. These limits exist to ensure performance and stability during PDF generation. Understanding what contributes to these limits can help you anticipate how your report will be delivered.
Export Limits
If any of the following limits are exceeded, your report will be automatically split and packaged as a .zip file:

Note: These limits apply to the total content included in the report, not just the number of tasks. A report with fewer tasks but a high number of attached photos or forms can still trigger a split.
Why Is My Report Delivered as a .zip File?
If your report downloads as a .zip file instead of a single PDF, it means the content exceeded one of the limits above and was automatically split into multiple PDFs.
Example: A project with 650 tasks may export as a single PDF if photos and forms stay within limits, but download as a .zip file once more photos are added to those tasks.
Limitations of Automatic Splitting
Automatic splitting works well for most use cases, but there are considerations for workflows that require a single cohesive document, such as fire protection documentation.
Merging the PDF files using third-party software results in an incorrect overall report because:
- each individual report starts with page 1.
- each individual report has its own table of contents.
For workflows where a single, fully navigable PDF is required, we recommend submitting a feature request so our product team is aware of your use case.
How to Generate a Task Report
Go to the Tasks tab in your project
Apply any filters to narrow the scope (if needed)
Click the printer icon to open Create Reports
Select or configure your report template
Download the PDF or .zip file
