Overview
Fieldwire users on a Business or Business Plus subscription can connect their Fieldwire account to Nomic, an AI-powered platform designed to analyze construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and other project documentation.
The Nomic integration helps teams review project documentation, identify potential issues, detect drawing symbols, compare plan versions, and generate actionable findings based on project data. Approved findings can be exported back to Fieldwire as tasks or RFIs, helping teams connect document review with field execution.
Fieldwire remains the source of truth for project information. Nomic securely reads authorized project data and can write approved tasks and RFIs back to Fieldwire without migrating project data to another system.
This article explains the requirements for connecting Fieldwire and Nomic, how the integration works, and what information can be synchronized between the two platforms.
Note: This article focuses specifically on connecting and configuring the Nomic integration. For general information about integrations and automations in Fieldwire, refer to the following articles:
Setting up a Connection to Nomic
Before connecting Fieldwire and Nomic, ensure you have the appropriate access in both platforms.
To create the connection, you'll need:
- A Nomic account with administrator access
- Integration configuration is performed from the Nomic administration interface.
- A Fieldwire Business or Business Plus account with API access
- For more information about the Fieldwire API, see: Introduction to the Fieldwire API
- A Fieldwire user with access to the projects that will be connected
- The API token used for the integration must have access to the projects that Nomic will analyze.
- Appropriate Nomic licenses for users who will use Nomic workflows and agents.
Authorization between Nomic and Fieldwire
During setup, Nomic uses a Fieldwire API token to securely access selected Fieldwire projects. Depending on the workflow, Nomic can:
- Read project metadata and permissions
- Read plans, sheets, files, tasks, submittals, and RFIs
- Create approved tasks in Fieldwire
- Create approved RFIs in Fieldwire
Access is limited to projects that have been authorized during setup.
To connect Fieldwire to Nomic, do the following:
1. Generate your Fieldwire API token
In Fieldwire:
- Open Account Settings
- Locate the API Token section
- Generate a personal API token
- Copy the token for use during setup
2. Sign in to Nomic
- Log in to your Nomic account using administrator credentials.
3. Open the Integrations page
- Navigate to the Nomic administration area
- Select Integrations
- Select Fieldwire
4. Authenticate Fieldwire
- Paste your Fieldwire API token
- Complete the authentication process
Nomic securely stores the token and uses it to access authorized Fieldwire projects.
5. Select projects
Choose the Fieldwire projects that Nomic should be allowed to access and analyze.
6. Complete setup
Once connected, Nomic will begin synchronizing project data and permissions for authorized projects.
How the Nomic → Fieldwire Workflow Operates
After creating the connection, Nomic can review project information from authorized Fieldwire projects and generate findings that can be exported back into Fieldwire.
Project Sync
Nomic reads project information from Fieldwire and maintains access to project metadata, files, plans, tasks, RFIs, and other supported project information. Fieldwire remains the source of truth, and project data is not migrated out of Fieldwire.
- Project metadata and permissions are synchronized
- Files are accessed when needed for analysis
- Project structure is maintained within Nomic
Document Review
Nomic can analyze project documentation, including:
- Plans and drawings
- Specifications
- RFIs
- Submittals
- Project files
These analyses can help identify potential issues, discrepancies, conflicts, and opportunities for further review.
Drawing Analysis and Task Generation
Nomic can analyze drawings and identify project elements that may require action in the field. Depending on the workflow, Nomic can:
- Detect symbols on drawings
- Create Fieldwire tasks associated with drawing locations
- Attach relevant supporting documentation
- Prepare findings for review before export
Generated tasks remain subject to human review and approval before being written to Fieldwire.
Drawing Version Comparison
Nomic can compare drawing revisions and identify changes between versions. These findings can help teams review updates and create RFIs when additional clarification is required.
Write-Back to Fieldwire
After review and approval, Nomic can create or update the following records in Fieldwire:
- Tasks
- Issues
- RFIs
This allows validated findings from Nomic workflows to become actionable items within Fieldwire.
Data Access and Permissions
Nomic respects the access permissions configured in Fieldwire.
- Project permissions are synchronized from Fieldwire
- Users can only access authorized projects and content
- Access is limited to projects included during setup
This helps ensure that project information remains accessible only to users with the appropriate permissions.
Current Limitations
- The integration currently uses API-token authentication.
- Integration setup and configuration are managed from within the Nomic platform.
- Nomic workflows are currently accessed through the Nomic interface and are not embedded directly within the Fieldwire user interface.
