Overview
It is often helpful to make a form duplicate if you know your forms will have a lot of duplicative entries. It can also be helpful to clone your form templates across different projects so you won't have to recreate a form in every new project. This Help Article explains both processes.
Note: Only Project Admins and Members can duplicate forms. (See this article for more information about project permission levels: Introduction to Project Permission Levels: Administrators, Members, and Followers).

How to Duplicate a Form
Duplicating a Form is helpful if there will be overlap across your forms - i.e. repeat entries.
Note: A form can only be duplicated including its content if the form template has not been changed in the meantime. The form to be copied must therefore be based on the current version of the form template.
How to Duplicate a Form on the Web
To duplicate a form on the web version of Fieldwire (app.fieldwire.com), follow the steps below:
Step 1: |
Select the checkboxes of the Form(s) you'd like to Duplicate. You can do so by going to the forms in the individual form template folder or by going to the "All forms" folder and selecting one or several forms there. |
Step 2: | Select the 'Actions' dropdown menu. |
Step 3: |
Select 'Duplicate forms'. Note: When duplicating forms on the web, a maximum of 50 forms can be duplicated at a time. |
Note: Once you duplicate a form template, it will become available on the mobile version of Fieldwire. This is the best workaround if you want to have multiple copies of a form available on your mobile app.
It is important to note that when duplicating forms on the web, a maximum of 50 forms can be duplicated at a time.
How to duplicate Forms on Mobile
Once a form is pulled up on a mobile device, any Project Admin or Member can duplicate the form. Just open up the Form, select the three horizontal (iOS) or vertical (Android) dots in the top-right corner and choose to 'duplicate' the form:
On iOS: | |
On Android: | |
When you duplicate a form, all of its contents will be copied over, with the following exceptions: weather (if applicable), signature(s), tasks, photos, and files. The duplicated form’s status will also automatically default to its first status (or “Draft” for our default templates).
On your iOS Device, open any project and click the 'Forms' tab, then use the search box at the top of the left menu:
- To filter by the Form number, type in '#' followed by the form number.
- The form number populates automatically after a form is created.
- To filter by Form Description, type the desired Form Description.
- When you first create a form, you're prompted to enter the Form Description.
- When you first create a form, you're prompted to enter the Form Description.
- To filter by the Assignee, type '@' followed by the desired user's name.
- When you type '@', all current form assignees are listed in a drop-down menu.
Example: Filtering my forms by the Assignee '@InspectorPaul' on iOS:
On an Android device, while on the 'Forms' tab, you can also filter by the form description, assignee, or number:
- To filter by Form name, type the desired Form Description.
- When you first create a form, you're prompted to enter the Form Description.
- To filter by the Assignee, type '@' followed by the desired user's name.
- When you type '@', all current form assignees are listed in a drop-down menu.
- To filter by the Form number, type in '#' followed by the form number.
- The form number populates automatically after a form is created.
Error message when duplicating forms
When trying to duplicate a form, you may receive the following error message:
The reason for this error message is that the form template was changed after the form to be copied was created and filled out. Input fields may have been removed, added or edited in the stored template. In this case, when attempting to duplicate an already completed form that is based on an outdated template, the contents are not copied.
A new form should therefore be created with the current form template. You can copy and paste the content from the old form to the new form for each input field.
How to Clone your Custom Form Templates
You are able to clone your custom form templates for any new projects you create.
This helps avoid any sort of duplicate work you may have to do.
Step 1: | Select '+New Project' from the Project Dashboard |
Step 2: |
Add a Project Name for your new project and select the project you would like to clone from the dropdown. |
Step 3: | Choose to 'Copy Form Templates'. |
Note: Currently, Form Templates can only be cloned to new projects. Custom Form Templates cannot be retroactively cloned to existing projects. However, Project Admins can choose to 'push' form templates from the Project-level to the Account level and the pull those form templates from the Account into the new project. (See this article for more information on importing form templates: Account Form Templates). Ensure that you are the Account Owner, Account Manager, or that you are covered under a Business Account to ensure that you can clone form templates.
