Overview
Project Labels help users organize their projects on the Fieldwire Project Dashboard. Account Managers/Owners can create/add/remove project labels, and Account Users with access as a Project Admin can add/remove labels for only those projects where they are an Admin.
Note: Project Users without Account access will not be able to view or create/add/remove project labels.
Note: Depending on how you’d like to label and organize your projects, please note that Project Labels are organized alphabetically in Fieldwire. Thus, as an example, if you set up your projects with High, Medium, and Low Priority Project Labels as we did, you may want to also include a "1", "2", or "3" before the Project Labels. Otherwise, you’ll see Projects with Low Priority labels prior to projects with Medium Priority labels.
How to create Project Labels
- Click the 3 dots (⋮) on a project tile
- Hover over Edit label
-
Click Manage labels
- IMPORTANT: Only Account Owner/Managers will see the button "Manage labels". Project admins are only able to apply/remove existing labels to projects that they are admins on (if they have account-level access) - they do not have access to "Manage labels".
-
Click + New label and add the name of the label
- IMPORTANT: When creating names for project labels, please keep in mind that Project Labels are organized alphabetically in Fieldwire.
- EXAMPLE: If you set up your projects with High, Medium, and Low Priority Project Labels as we did, you may want to also include a "1", "2", or "3" before the Project Labels. Otherwise, you’ll see Projects with Low Priority labels prior to projects with Medium Priority labels.
- Once you have created your project label, you’ll be able to assign a color to it to be able to more easily distinguish them from one another.
Edit, remove, or delete existing Project Labels
If you mistakenly assign the incorrect label to a project:
- Click the 3 dots
- Hover over “Edit label”
- Select the correct label or select Remove label if you do not want any label associated with that project.
If you’d like to update an existing label:
- Click “Manage labels”
- Click the pencil icon next to the name.
If you want to delete a project label:
- Click Manage labels
- Click on the trash icon.
- Confirm the delete action.
IMPORTANT: Deleting a project label is a permanent action that removes the label from any project associated with it. There is no way to add the label back to multiple projects at a time, so please be sure that you want to delete the project label prior to doing so.
Sorting Using Project Labels
With the addition of project labels to the Project Dashboard, users now have the ability to sort their projects by project labels.
To sort your projects by the label:
- Click the “Sort” button
- Select Label
Note: As mentioned above, please keep in mind that Project Labels are organized alphabetically in Fieldwire.
Note: Project labels can be viewed, and projects sorted by label, on mobile. However, it is currently not possible to manage (create/add/remove) Project labels on the mobile version of Fieldwire. If you would like to cast your vote for this feature to be developed, please email support@fieldwire.com.
FAQs
Who can create and manage Project Labels?
Account Owners and Account Managers can create, edit, and delete Project Labels using the Manage labels option. Account Users with access as a Project Admin can apply or remove existing labels on projects where they are a Project Admin, but they cannot create, edit, or delete labels.
Why don't I see the "Manage labels" option?
The Manage labels option is only available to Account Owners and Account Managers. If you are a Project Admin or Project User, you may only be able to apply or remove existing labels, depending on your permissions.
Can Project Users create or view Project Labels?
No. Project Users who do not have account-level access cannot view, create, add, or remove Project Labels.
Can I assign more than one Project Label to a project?
No. Each project can have only one Project Label assigned at a time. Selecting a different label will replace the existing label.
Why are my labels not appearing in the order I expected?
Project Labels are displayed and sorted alphabetically in Fieldwire. If you want labels to appear in a specific order, consider adding a numerical prefix such as "1 - High Priority", "2 - Medium Priority", and "3 - Low Priority".
What happens if I delete a Project Label?
Deleting a Project Label permanently removes it from Fieldwire and removes it from any projects that currently use it. This action cannot be undone.
Can I edit the name or color of an existing Project Label?
Yes. Account Owners and Account Managers can edit existing labels by selecting Manage labels and clicking the pencil icon next to the label.
Can I use Project Labels on the mobile app?
You can view Project Labels and sort projects by label on mobile. However, creating, editing, deleting, assigning, or removing Project Labels is only available on the web version of Fieldwire.
Does changing a label affect project data?
No. Project Labels are used only for organization and sorting on the Project Dashboard. Changing or removing a label does not modify any project content, files, tasks, or plans.
