Overview & background
Depending on the size of your device's internal memory, it may be beneficial to store data from Fieldwire on an SD card. Plans, files, photos, and videos can all be stored on an SD card, and you can switch between storing on Disk 1 or Disk 2 at any time in that 'Data' menu.
Note: When formatting the SD cards, make sure to select the smallest possible allocation unit size available. This is because our plans are stored as many small image files (tiles) and if the allocation unit size chosen is too large, then each file may take up more than the necessary amount of space.
How to store Fieldwire data on an SD card
To store data from your project on an external SD card of an Android device, open up the Fieldwire app and click the three vertical dots in the top right corner. Then select 'Data'.
This will lead to a screen where you can choose where to store cached information.
Tap the disk to confirm the new storage location. All of the data on the original storage disk then deletes and re-downloads to the new storage disk (in other words, it won't remain on both).
Note: If you are not connected to WiFi at the time of switching storage options (thus causing the re-download of data to the other disk to be handled by your mobile device's built-in internet service), this will use large amounts of your data plan-- so please ensure you're connected to WiFi to avoid this from happening.
Important: Switching to SD card storage prevents using all of your device's storage space. So it can be useful to switch to storage on an SD card if your project has quite a lot of content.
