Overview
If you have several similar projects that you need to create in Fieldwire, you can save time during the project set up process by creating a project template. Creating a Project Template will allow you to apply the same settings you can designate from a blank template or from a project you've already created. The intention with creating project templates is to speed up the project creation process and save valuable time.

Project Templates
Project Templates are available to Pro, Business, and Business Plus subscribers! To start creating templates, you’ll need to have the role of Account Owner or Account Manager.
Please note:
- Some advanced features, such as adding Files and Forms (as well as other features) within Project Templates, remain exclusive to Business and higher tiers.
- If you’d like to explore those additional features or upgrade your plan, reach out to our Support Team at support@fieldwire.com, and they’ll connect you with our Sales team.
Once you have verified this information:
- Navigate to the Templates tab at the account level
- Click + New template or + New project template.
- Give your template a name
- Choose whether you would like to start from a blank template or copy from an existing project
Blank Template
If you choose to start from a blank template, once you click "Create project template", you'll be taken to a new screen that will greatly resemble a project Settings tab. You'll see options to set the "Timezone", "Currency", notifications preferences, task attributes, categories, plan folders, and more!
In addition to plan folders, you can also include specific files on project templates to ensure they are always available on your projects!
You can also view and manage permissions directly within the template itself by selecting the Manage permissions option to view permissions then select the Edit permissions option to modify permissions.
Once you're ready to use your newly created project template on your next project, click + New Project. Then, add the Project Name and Code, if applicable, before clicking "Create project".
Other features you can customize for your project templates are:
- submittal response
- submittal numbering
- change order presets.
You can do so by
- Scrolling down to the Project management section of the template
- Click on the Manage responses, Manage submittal numbering, or Manage presets buttons
If you don't see the project management section of the template, you may need to enable submittals and/or change orders on the template under the Features section. For submittal numbering, you can choose how all submittal numbers will be formatted in your project, either Number by Company or Number by specification'.
Existing Project
If you choose to start from an existing project and copy it to create your project template, you'll be able to choose which project items you'd like to copy to the new template.
Going through this flow, it is extremely important to note that when you copy project items, such as Checklists, Form templates, and Task attributes, you must click the checkbox to acknowledge that doing so may may result in duplicates.
All form templates, checklists, and lists used on this project you're copying from will automatically be published to the account.
You can avoid this by unchecking Checklists, Form templates, and Task attributes when copying a project to a project template. Once you've selected or de-selected the project items you'd like to copy, click Create template.
