Overview
Fieldwire's BIM viewer allows users to view and navigate 3D models in Fieldwire if they're using the web version of our application, or a mobile device (iOS and Android).
This article outlines how to navigate the 3D model tab on Web, how to upload a 3D model, and how to manage the models that have been uploaded.
Table of Contents
The 3D Model Tab
All Projects that are covered under the Business and Business Plus subscriptions have the 3D Models tab by default.
All Project Users have access to the 3D Models tab, independent of their permissions set.
Uploading 3D Models
Only Project Admins have the option to upload and create folders for 3D Models. Select the '+New Model' to upload a new 3D Model to the Project.
Note: Only .IFC files, versions 2x editions 2, 3, and 4 (500mbs or under) can be uploaded to the 3D Models tab. Please refer to this article for more information on IFC versions.
Organizing 3D Models
Select the '+New folder' option, enter the name of the folder, and select 'Create'.
Models are sorted alphanumerically under the 3D models tab.
To rename a model, select it by clicking the small checkbox in the upper left corner of the thumbnail, and then click the 'Actions' button (which will have turned red) and choose 'Rename'.
To move a model to a different folder, select it, then choose 'Actions' and 'Move to folder'.
Project Admins can upload 3D Models to a folder and rename or delete the folder from the folder drop-down menu:
Select 'New Model' to add a Model to this folder on the drop-down menu.
Alternatively, select the transparent "+New model" option to add another model to this folder.
Click 'Rename folder' to adjust the folder name.
Note: Folders, like models and plans, are automatically sorted alphanumerically.
Renaming 3D Models
Project Admins can modify the name of 3D Models. Since models are sorted alphanumerically, adjusting their names is an easy way to re-organize your models.
To change the name from the 3D Models tab, select the model, then click 'Actions' and 'Rename'.
From there, make your alterations to the name and select 'Submit'.
You can also change the name from the BIM Viewer.
Similar to our functionality with plans, click the small pencil icon next to the name of the model while it is open in the BIM Viewer:
Note: If a new model is uploaded with the same name as an existing model, a number will be appended to the new upload. For example, if I upload 'Architectural model' and a model is present with the same name, the new model will be renamed 'Architectural model (1)'.
Deleting 3D Models
Project Admins can select the model(s), then go to the 'Actions' drop-down and choose 'Delete'.
Note: Deleting a 3D Model is a permanent action. These cannot be retrieved from the 'Trash' tab.
