Overview
After uploading 3D models to the BIM Viewer, users can select any object within the model. From there, they can hide, isolate, or view the properties of any model object. Being able to access model properties such as material, height, type, etc. gives your whole team actionable, location-specific insight into the model and project.
- Subscriptions: Business and Business Plus
- Permissions: Project Admins can upload and create folders for 3D Models. Project Followers have access to the 3D Models tab. For more information about project permissions, check out this article: Introduction to Project Permission Levels: Administrators, Members, and Followers.
- Platforms: Web, Android app, iOS app
Select an Object
To select an object:
- Left-click on it
- The selected object will turn yellow
If a user holds down the left-click for longer than 2 seconds, the viewer will transition to navigation mode.
View Coordinates
When selecting an object or clicking anywhere on the 3D model, you can now quickly view the 3D coordinates of the point you clicked. This provides helpful spatial context when determining elevation, verifying placement, or creating accurately positioned elements in your project.
The viewer will display the X, Y, and Z coordinates for the selected point based on the model’s coordinate system.
- These values represent the point’s position in 3D space.
- You can use the Z‑value to understand elevation or height at the selected location.
A coordinate readout will appear in the context menu each time you click a new point.
View Properties
To see the properties of an object:
- Left-click on the object
- Select 'Properties':
This will reveal additional data for the selected model object.
Fieldwire will display every property included in your model for that object, which ultimately depends on the type of object, the platform in which you created your model, etc.:
If you select 'Isolate object' on the object, the viewer will hide all other objects on the model.
Once you have isolated the object, you can click on it again to either click 'Hide object' or 'Show all'.
The 'Show all' option will cause hidden objects in the model to be displayed. You will also see a button appear at the top of the model that allows you to 'Show all' as well as displays how many objects are being hidden on the model.
Conversely, selecting 'Hide object' will obscure only the selected object:
To de-select an object, click in the white space outside of the model or hold the left-click for longer than 2 seconds. This will transition the viewer to navigation mode and will de-select the object.
