Overview
What is Value-added Tax (VAT), and is it added automatically when purchasing Fieldwire licenses?
In the European Union (EU), value-added tax (VAT) is a consumption tax placed on a product whenever value is added at each stage of the supply chain, from production to the point of sale. The amount of VAT that companies in the EU pay is calculated on the cost of the product, less any of the costs of materials used in the product that has already been taxed.
The United States does not have a national VAT, and all Fieldwire customers are billed through our US entity. Therefore, Fieldwire does not automatically collect VAT, and all our invoices/receipts are issued in US Dollars (USD), excluding VAT.
Customers with business entities in the EU have to declare and pay VAT at the applicable rate in your country, as if you had supplied your Fieldwire service yourself: this is called "cross-border VAT."

What to do if you are a Fieldwire customer with an EU business entity
How to add a VAT number to your invoice receipts
Note: If your business is incorporated in the US or any other country outside the EU, you don't need to follow this process.
If your business entity is in the EU and you are upgrading from a Basic account, add the information required for your cross-border VAT accounting during the checkout process.
On the checkout page, enter your Company Name, VAT number, and Address under the Company and Address fields before agreeing to our terms of service and clicking 'Subscribe:'
Example of resultant invoice receipt:
Note: Each invoice receipt also includes a unique Receipt Number your accounting team can use to reference and keep records of recent charges.
Important: If you already have paid subscription, your Company Name, VAT number, and/or Address can be added or updated at any time under the Account tab of your Fieldwire 'Home' screen by the Account Owner and/or any Account Manager:
Note: This will update your information on all future receipts, but previous invoices will not be retroactively updated. Unfortunately, we cannot retroactively update previous invoices with VAT information. However, if you need this information added to past receipts, download the receipts from the 'Account' tab and edit the PDF receipts through a PDF Editor like Adobe Acrobat Pro or free online software like Smallpdf.
