Overview
Navigation in Fieldwire is designed to keep everything organized. Project content is organized into "Tabs". These tabs house your project content. "Categories," listed in between the tabs, are used to sort your Tasks. The tabs and categories on your project are static throughout the web and mobile versions-- this article will outline both platforms.
Tabs and Categories on Mobile (iOS)
Tabs and Categories on the Web
What can I access on each tab?
Mobile (iOS) Note: The 3D Models tab is not visible on your mobile device until you upload a 3D model. |
Web |
Plans Tasks |
Upload, store, and organize your sheets. Create tasks, markups, and hyperlinks on your sheets here. You'll see Task Categories listed in the bottom of the left menu whenever you access this tab. Selecting any of them will display the number of those tasks in each of your plans in a small blue icon on the plans themselves, whether 'My tasks' (tasks assigned to you), 'Watched tasks' (tasks that have you listed as a watcher), 'All tasks,' or any of your custom Categories. |
View, filter, manage and schedule the tasks on your project. Leverage the Kanban, Calendar, Gantt, and Analytics views. Task categories will also always be visible in the left menu when accessing the Tasks tab.
Photos |
This is where you can find all of your project photos (from within tasks and hyperlinks). When you select this tab, you will not see any task categories listed in the left menu. Instead, you can view 'All photos', organized automatically into convenient folders according to the date they were taken in (or added to) Fieldwire. Or, you can click 'My photos' to view only the pictures you personally uploaded to Fieldwire or added to Fieldwire tasks. |
Forms |
Business and Business Plus Subscribers can leverage and edit our Form Templates, or create their own Custom Forms. You won't see any task categories listed in the left menu when you click to view your Forms tab. Instead, just like Photos, you can view 'All forms', organized automatically into convenient folders according to the templates they were made from. Or, you can click 'My forms' to view only the forms ASSIGNED to you, regardless of status and who is listed as the 'Creator'. In either tab (All or My forms), you can click 'Filter forms' in the upper-right to view subsets of forms pertaining to particular templates, creators, and/or dates they were created or last modified. If you're in My forms, you'll only see forms currently assigned to YOU with those additional filters, no matter what. If you're in All forms, you can filter by all those parameters AND/or the other user(s) who are currently assigned those forms. |
Files |
This is where you can find all of your project files. Upload your files here, reference them in Tasks and Photos. Just like Photos and Forms, you won't see any task categories listed in the left menu when you click to view the Files tab. Instead, you can view 'All files', organized in completely customizable folders of your choosing. Or, you can click 'My files' to view only the files that you were the last Fieldwire user to update. In either tab (All or My files), you can click 'Filter files' in the upper-right to view subsets of files with particular tags, filenames, and/or dates they were created or last modified. If you're in My Files, you'll only see files that were last modified (updated) by YOU, no matter what. If you're in All Files, you can filter by all those parameters AND by the other user(s) in your project who last updated them. |
3D Models |
Business and Business Plus Subscribers can view 3D Models through our online BIM Viewer. There are currently no categories or filters available for the BIM viewer. |
Mobile (iOS) |
Web |
People | You can manage all of the users working on your project on this page. Users are organized by project permission access, and you can view their contact information by clicking on their name. |
Settings | This is where Project admins update project-wide settings. You can also manage your, tags, report templates, checklist templates, and locations.
Trash | If any Plans or Files are deleted, Project Admins have 30 days to restore them from the Trash Tab. Note: This is only available on the Web. |
What is a Category?
'Categories' sort your Tasks. Typically, users create categories based on specific project topics or trades (e.g. HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical).
When you create a task, be sure to include the category it is associated with. For example, 'Electrical' is the category selected in the Task on Mobile, and 'Landscaping' is the category selected in the task on Web:

Sort Tasks by Selecting Categories
If you would like to display Tasks that are associated with a category, select that category from your category list. The category you have selected will determine which tasks appear in the selected Tab.
On Mobile
If you have the 'Tasks' tab selected, isolate the task pertinent to a category by selecting that category:
If you have the 'Plans' tab selected you can view the total number of tasks associated with that category on the sheet. This number appears to the right of the screen name:
If you have a plan open, the tasks associated with the selected category will be illuminated, all other tasks will appear gray: |
On Web
If you have the 'Tasks' tab selected, isolate the visible tasks by selecting the relevant category:
Within each category (or All tasks), you can click 'Filter tasks' in the upper-right to view more specific subsets of those tasks. Apply additional filters and you'll see only tasks in that category with those additional parameters. You can also use the blue task View options to see those tasks organized by priority (default Kanban view), on a Calendar, in a Gantt chart, or displayed in graphs. |
|
If you are on the 'Plans' tab, you can view the total number of tasks associated with that category on specific sheets:
When you click to view an individual plan, you can continue to use the task category selectors on the left to view only those types of tasks, which are filtered to show on the plan itself and listed with additional details on the right side of the screen. The tasks associated with the selected category will be illuminated, tasks in other categories will be grayed out: |
By default, all projects will allow you to sort by 'My Tasks', 'Watched Tasks', or 'All Tasks'.
- 'My Tasks' - Tasks you have been assigned.
- 'Watched Tasks' - Tasks where you are a watcher.
- 'All Tasks' - All tasks on the project, independent of category and assignee.
Add a Category
On Web: | |
Project Admins can create a new category by selecting the " + New category " option at the bottom of the categories list.
On Mobile: | |
On Mobile, you can add a new category from a task; this is especially helpful when you notice an uncategorized task. To do this, open a task, then select 'Edit' in the top right corner to move to the Task Details. Choose 'Category' and scroll to the bottom of the list to create a new category. |
Edit or Delete or a Category
If you need to edit or delete a category, hover your mouse over it. When you hover over a category, a little gear will appear. Choose to 'Edit' or 'Delete' the category. If you delete a category, all related tasks will no longer be associated with that category. Note: You can only edit or delete categories from the Web.
Note: You can edit both the category name and the category initials, individually, without affecting the other. |
