Overview & background

A hashtag in Fieldwire is another way to group or filter plans, tasks, and photos. Hashtags are a great way to organize and associate tasks, plans, or photos with a specific trade, location, punch list, or anything else you'd like.

As your project grows more intricate, keeping a list of hashtags aids in organization. Especially since you can filter by hashtags and report on hashtags.

Can I add or edit multiple hashtags at once?

Batch tagging can be done on the web version of Fieldwire. Below we will show you how to batch tag tasks and photos.

Plans & Hashtags

Plan hashtags allow you to group specific plans together. These tags are a great way to organize your plans and associate them with a specific trade, duty, discipline, etc. It's also a great way to instantly filter for plans that you frequently access during the course of your project.

Step 1:

Select all plans you would like to tag by clicking on the upper left-hand box of each plan thumbnail. You can also select a folder to tag all of the plans housed in that folder.

Select plans on the Plans tab

Step 2:

After you select all the pertinent plans, click on the '
Actions' button at the top of the screen.  You will then select 'Manage tags'.

Step 3:

The '
Manage tags' box will then appear. Here you can enter a new tag or type an existing tag to associate all selected plans with that tag. To remove tags from the selected plans, click the 'X' next to the tag name.

Tasks & Hashtags

Other articles about hashtags describe how you can add a tag to a task by using the hashtag (#) symbol in the body of the task. However, if you'd like to add or remove a tag to a number of tasks at once:

Step 1: Go to the 'Tasks' page and select all the tasks you would like to tag by clicking the tick mark that pops up when you hover over the tasks.
Step 2:  After all the tasks are selected, click on the 'Actions' button at the top of the screen.  Then select Manage tags.
Step 3:  The 'Manage tags' box will appear. Here you can enter a new tag or start typing an existing tag to add the tag to all selected tasks.  To remove tags from the selected tasks, click the 'x' next to the tag name.
Step 4: You can now 'Filter tasks' (on web or mobile) by the tag and only those tasks will appear.

Note: Once the tag is added it, it will appear darker than the existing tags. Darker text means that the tag has been applied to all selected tasks.  The lighter text means the tag is included in some, but not all tasks.  This will be the same with photos and plans.

How to Filter Tasks

Note: Whenever the tasks are filtered on the web, the Filter tasks bar will be highlighted. This will be the same for photos and plans.
