Overview
This article will highlight each of the different buttons available on the Plans tab and provide a brief description of what each button does.
When viewing the main Plans tab page, there are options to upload plans, buttons to determine how to view your plans, and a button that you can use to filter your plans. In addition to those, you have the ability to create collections, add a new folder for your plans, see which plans you last viewed, and also look up your plan upload history from the past 90 days using the Version Control button.
Note: Plans are available to every Fieldwire user. However, there are certain limitations within the Plans tab if you are not a Project Admin, and/or if you have not upgraded to our Pro or Business tiers. We will notate those features as such in the information provided below.

Collections (Optional Top‑Level Grouping)
Collections introduce a new top-level grouping system that helps users better organize large or complex projects. They serve as parent containers above the existing single‑level folder structure and offer two major advantages:
Additional Organizational Layer
- Collections give you another grouping level above folders. Although they do not visually appear as traditional folders, they function like a higher‑level container that helps break down and organize plans more effectively.
Duplicate Sheet Number Support
- Plans can now share the same sheet number within a project, as long as they are placed in different Collections.
- For example:
- Building A → A101
- Building B → A101
- This removes the need to rename sheets or create multiple projects when working with repeated sheet numbers across buildings, phases, or disciplines.

Upload Plans
When accessing the Plans tab, you can upload plans using any of the buttons highlighted in the screenshot above. There are the "+New plan" buttons and then there's the button next to the folder name. This button as well as the "+New plan" button next to the plan sheet in the screenshot above both allow you to add plans to specific folders whereas the blue "+New Plan" button adds plans to the "All plans" folder upon initial upload. In addition, you can upload single-page PDFs as well as multi-page PDFs. However, the multi-page PDFs will break out into single pages upon upload to Fieldwire.
Note: If you are an admin on a project that is on a Business or Business Plus subscription, you now have the ability to give project members and project followers permission to upload plans. To learn more about uploading Plans, click here.
Note: If Collections are enabled on your project, you will be prompted to choose a Collection during upload. If Collections are not enabled, plans will upload as usual into your standard folder structure.
Plan Views
There are two plan views: the Plan Thumbnail View and the Plan List View.
In the Plan Thumbnail View, shown in the screenshot above, you can see thumbnail images of each plan in your project. In this view, you can see the plan title and tasks associated with the plan.
The second Plan view is the Plan List View. In this view, you can see the plan title, tasks associated with the plan, the current version, any tags associated with the plan, as well as the option to upload a new version of the plan, edit the plan, or delete the plan.
Both of these views will help you quickly identify your plan sheets!
Filter Plans
You can filter plans by the following:
- Tags
- Version: The version set being the denomination of a plan's 'version description'. Fieldwire shows the most recent 90 days of plan versions by default. This makes it faster to find and filter by the versions your team is actively working with.
- Time (Created date and/or Last modified): When plans were added, modified (new version or new markups), as well as the date range which works exactly the same as the date range in our task filters.
- 3D view: Plan sheets that are linked with a 3D model that has been uploaded to Fieldwire
Note: When Collections are enabled, filters apply within the currently selected Collection. Switch Collections to view or filter plans from other areas of the project.

Folders
The "+ New folder" button allows users to create a new folder for their plans for better organization on the plans tab.
Once you've created a new folder, you can drag and drop plans into that new folder, or you can click on the down arrow next to the folder's name and click on "New plan", "Rename folder", or you can choose to delete the folder. If you delete the folder accidentally, it can be recovered from the Trash tab.
IMPORTANT: If Collections are enabled, folders will exist inside each Collection. Folder behavior remains the same, but the top‑level grouping will be determined by the selected Collection.
Version Control
Project Admins can access the version control for plans. Version Control displays the history of all plans which have been uploaded to the project. These are split out by the upload date and provide you with the last 90 days of plan uploads. Here, you can view the Plan file name, the Version Description, and the Version Notes:
You can also export a 'Drawing log' or a .csv record of when the plans were uploaded and which versions these are associated with.
IMPORTANT: On projects with Collections enabled, versioning and conflict resolution occur within each Collection. If multiple Collections contain the same sheet number, you will only see conflicts for the Collection you are working in.
